The Nabisco Shredded Wheat Factory was built in the mid 20's
and designed by Louis de Soissons. From the outside it is very striking, with
the large tubular concrete building dominating the site, and gaining a grade II
listed status in January of 1981.
Production of Shredded Wheat began here in 1926 and
continued right up to 2008 when the factory closed its doors for good.
The site
is now owned by Tesco who want to turn it into a megastore but have been met
with major protests from locals and failure to gain planning permission.
So now the site stands empty and decaying at an alarming rate.
These are the pictures of what remains...
UPDATE:
There has been controversy surrounding urbexers 'raiding' this building in the past, and it even got in the local news paper. This time it seems I have attracted their attention! A fellow explorer's report on a nearby site made page 5 of the Welwyn Hatfield Times (09/05/12) and I made a guest appearance!
